About
A 60-minute facilitated workshop developed with painter Fredericka Foster for the FATE (Foundations in Art: Theory and Education) conference at Columbus College of Art & Design. Through 13 guided questions—ranging from "your first memories about water" to "what is your favorite body of water and how do you think it looks in the future"—participants created collages using images sourced from Foster's Agua de Carnaval paintings and my own artwork and research, alongside magazines and found materials.
Set to music, participants mapped their water journeys through words and images, exploring how water connects to memory, ritual, spirituality, and future action. The workshop demonstrates how artistic practice functions as a tool for self-investigation and activism, making visible the connections between personal narrative and collective environmental responsibility. For me, this work is rooted in my Panamanian identity—a country embraced by two oceans, entirely dependent on water for its economy, culture, and biodiversity.
The project creates a replicable methodology that participants can apply to any subject they wish to explore, demonstrating how art aids self-reflection, communication, and community building.
