About
A solo performance presented at the ¡ESTAMOS! Symposium at the Long Island Museum, Stony Brook, NY on September 30, 2023 — public programming for SOMOS/WE ARE, guest-curated by Kelynn Z. Alder with Nina Sangimino, Curator at the Long Island Museum. I participated in the exhibition as an exhibiting artist with PRAKA.
For this iteration of Mirror Dancing, I appropriated a playlist of Panamanian pop — Rubén Blades, Los Rabanes, Nando Boom, Osvaldo Ayala, Samy y Sandra Sandoval — to give myself messages in front of the mirror. Songs about my Panamanian identity intermixed with my New York reality. Making my private ritual seen at the Carriage Museum within the Long Island Museum, with a mirror specially installed for the performance.
The Long Island Museum received the Museum Association of New York's 2024 Engaging Communities Award for SOMOS/WE ARE.
